B.C.’s first lotto millionaire of 2010 actually won in 2009

LANGLEY (NEWS1130)-  An Aldergrove man has become B.C.’s first millionaire of 2010, but he took his time to claim the $6.7 million cheque. Karl Hoolsema had one of the two winning tickets for the December 19th Lotto 6/49 draw, and can now say ‘goodbye’ to his Langley truck-driving job.

Hoolsema split the Lotto 6/49 jackpot with someone living in Quebec. But Chris Fairclough with the B.C. Lottery Corporation says Hoolsema only checks his tickets once a month, so he didn’t know it at the time.  He still didn’t check even when he heard there was a ‘lucky lotto Langley winner’ who never claim the big prize. “It was the holidays, he wanted to enjoy his time and relax, figure out what he wanted to do with his change.”

Hoolsema’s plans for the cash? “Both him and his wife will be leaving their jobs and retiring but he just wants to spend some time hunting, golfing and fishing.”
