North Van school to close its doors

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – While the Vancouver School Board braces itself for major cuts, other districts are already swinging the ax.

Tuesday night, the North Vancouver School Board voted to close Fromme elementary school for good in June.

“We have a really strong, tight community. We have a lot of special-needs kids. We have a lot of parents who support each other. We’ve had quite a few moms who have had cancer and we do a lot of support along those lines. To see the school go like that is pretty hard,” says Fromme’s Parent Advisory Council president Heather Skuse.

Only a week ago, it voted to close both Plymouth elementary by the end of this school year, and Blueridge by 2013.

The district has a 6.7 million dollar budget shortfall.
