Fans and players gearing up for return to Empire Field

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s been about three decades since the BC Lions last played a game at Empire Field in East Vancouver.  In about three weeks the team will be returning to the grounds PNE grounds to kick off the season against the Edmonton Eskimos.

Nick Hebeler was a Leo from 1979-1985 says he can’t wait for the team’s return to their original field.  “There was lots of memories.  It was the birth of my professional career.”

Al Wilson who played from 1972-1986 figures it will be a nostalgic experience for everyone.  “There’s probably dads and moms out there who are going to bring their children and say ‘This is where I watched my first professional football game.’  They’ll tell them about the Nalley’s Quarterback Club.  It’s not just the players, I think there are a lot of fans that are going to enjoy going back to Empire.”

On August 27th, game day ticket holders can attend the fair at the PNE for free.  TransLink has bus plans in place this season to get fans around efficiently.
