Breastfeeding column has lactivists seething

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Bottle or breast? It is a topic that has a parenting magazine in the U.K. deep in diaper-filling.

A column on breastfeeding is generating a whole lot of controversy. It is not a new debate but “Mother and Baby” columnist Kathryn Blundell’s decision not to nurse has gone high-profile. She says it’s a way to affirm ownership of her breasts, which she calls her “funbags”. She writes, “Seeing your teeny, tiny innocent baby latching on where only a lover has been before feels, well, a little creepy.”

The Province newspaper reports since the column came out, women worldwide have responded and many are scathingly angry. Some say its “perturbing evidence how far Barbie culture has gone mainstream.” Others say they are angry that “lactivists” have declared breasts non-sexual.
