VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Software pirates are sucking billions of dollars out of the Canadian economy.
Business Software Alliance has released a study showing the impact of this kind of theft. The group says 29 per cent of all software installed on Canadian PCs last year was stolen or unlicenced. Cutting that rate by 10 points in four years would add $3.5 billion to the GDP and create about 6500 jobs.
BSA’s Matt Reid says working faster would provide even greater dividends. “If Canada was able to achieve those same results in two years, it would increase the economic activity by 37 per cent.”
Reid says stronger laws and better enforcement are needed.
