TORONTO, On. – Toronto was named the most sustainable large city in Canada for the second year, according to Corporate Knights Magazine.
The magazine released the rankings at The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Sustainable Cities Conference in Victoria, B.C., Wednesday.
Corporate Knights judged cities in five categories: Ecological Integrity, Economic Security, Governance and Empowerment, Infrastructure and Built Environment, and Social Well-Being.
The city’s governance and empowerment earned it top marks. As well, it scored high for its aggressive Climate Change Action Plan, and for its leading Green Roof Bylaw, the first in North America to require and govern the construction of green roofs on all new development.
