VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A local doctor says we shouldn’t get rid of traditional incandescent bulbs until we know more about the risks associated with compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Dr. Janis McCaffrey says she’s concerned about the effects for people with autoimmune diseases. Health Canada has posted a warning on its website, saying people suffering from lupus or other autoimmune diseases could be sensitive to the UV rays from CFLs.
McCaffery says she hasn’t been able to find any other information about the actual impacts and until we have it, the federal should slow down its campaign to get rid of incandescents.
Health Canada tells the Vancouver Sun the UV emissions from CFLs and incandescents are pretty much the same and if there were concerns regarding safety, it would investigate.
