Vancouver’s first tool library to open doors in May

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It saves money, reduces waste, and helps you get to know your neighbours better. Vancouver’s first tool library is launching in early May.

The idea is to let do-it-yourselvers share tools for home repair and renovation.

President Chris Diplock says they decided to set up their tool-lending cooperative in East Vancouver after seeing the success of similar libraries in Seattle and Portland.

“The philosophy is that there are tools in your community that go unused that could be shared with others who need those tools, so we’re creating a common resource for the community.”

He says they’ll begin accepting member applications within three weeks. You then have to pay an annual maintenance fee to get access to the library’s inventory, half of which will be donated by other members.
