Smile! More red light cameras installed

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Traffic cameras at 35 of BC’s most notorious intersections will now snap photos of drivers who bend the rules.

The provincial government thinks the cameras and a $167 fine will change the way people drive, but Vancouverites think it’s a bummer that Victoria has to babysit drivers.

“If you have cameras everywhere people are going to realize they’re going to have to slow down.  I just think that’s sad that they feel they have to do that and then people who don’t have common sense to slow down anyways,” says one man.

The province logs about 250 intersections crashes a day and hopes the program will cut the statistics by at least six per cent.  Any money generated from the cameras will be spread out throughout the cities in BC for policing and safety programs.

Intersections

*Marine Drive and Capilano Road, North Vancouver
*Mary Hill Bypass at River Road, Port Coquitlam
*East Broadway and Commercial Drive, Vancouver
*Knight Street and 33rd Avenue, Vancouver
*Lougheed Highway and Pitt River Road, Coquitlam
*Brunette Highway and Braid Street, New Westminster
