Man followed former girlfriend’s car before shooting

CLARESHOLM, AB. (NEWS1130) – Mounties say a man had been following his ex-girlfriend’s car on a southern Alberta highway before he rear-ended it and opened fire on all four people inside.

Twenty-one year old Derek Jensen was carrying three loaded guns when the two cars stopped on the edge of the road near Claresholm on Thursday.

The driver of the car, 21-year-old Shayna Conway, got out and was shot several times.

Jensen then walked up to the car and fired numerous rounds, killing his ex-girlfriend 21-year-old Tabitha Stepple and 22-year-old Tanner Craswell.  Twenty-year-old Mitchell MacLean was shot but managed to climb out of the car and crawl into a ditch.

Mounties are still are waiting to talk to Conway, who survived the incident.  The two men who were killed were headed to the airport to fly home for the holidays.
