ORLANDO, FLA (NEWS1130) – Tiger Woods finished at 13 under par to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational by five strokes over Graeme McDowell. It was the first time Woods has won on the PGA Tour since September of 2009.
Starting the final round with a one stroke lead on McDowell, Woods shot a two-under 70, while his Northern Irish playing partner was two-over par on his final 18 holes.
It has been 924 days (30 months) since Woods has raised a trophy on the PGA tour. His last triumph was on September 13, 2009 at the BMW Championship.
Tiger now has 72 career victories, which is one win back of second-place Jack Nicklaus. Sam Snead is the all-time leader with 82. Nicklaus still leads the way with 18 major titles won. Woods is at 14, with the Master two weeks away at Augusta, Georgia.
It’s Tiger’s seventh win at Arnold Palmer’s tournament.
Palmer, 82, was not on hand for the trophy ceremony, as he was hospitalized with rising blood pressure. He will be kept overnight.
