BC plans to take its traffic ticketing system online

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s Motor Vehicles branch plans to unveil a user-friendly, online payment system for traffic tickets. It also aim to streamline how you fight your ticket.

Superintendent of Motor Vehicles Steve Martin says parking officers have better ticketing devices than police, and he has a plan to change that.

“On the street, police will have the use of electronic ticketing devices to issue the ticket,” he says. “People will also have the ability to dispute their tickets over the phone rather than having to take a day off to go to court.”

He says those officers who have to show up for disputed traffic tickets are needed for higher priority matters.

Martin explains we’ll be the first province to implement the online system,  though both Ottawa and Edmonton have e-ticketing systems in place.
