Pitt Lake plane crash site being investigated decades later

PITT MEADOWS (NEWS1130) – Despite some hikers reporting human remains in a remote area near Pitt Lake, Ridge Meadows Mounties say they haven’t been able to locate any.

RCMP spent some time last week at the site where an Armed Forces plane crashed almost 60 years ago with a forensic specialist.

“The site is located on a mountain in an area called Widgeon Creek and is only accessible by air.”

Corporal Alanna Dunlop says the area did have a bit of snow cover but there is no indication of any remains in the area as she says Canadian Armed Forces still confirms 5 men were killed and all were accounted for back in 1953.

“It is in a very harsh and extreme environment so it is really difficult to say what would survive or how…or if there has been any new animal remains or things like that.”

She says there are no further plans to make the trip back up

“We don’t know why they mentioned there may have been human remains there but we felt is necessary to go and check it out.”
