VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Think grandma and grandpa are a little prudish? Think again!
Desiree Holt is a 76-year-old grandmother from Texas who is living proof you’re never too old to spice up your love life; she’s been called the world’s most sex-crazed senior citizen.
“I sure am! At 76, I’m the world’s oldest published erotic romance author,” she laughs.
Holt always wanted to write, but never dreamed she’d end up writing erotica. But once she retired and set out to write a mystery, she got stuck.
“I got the first three chapters done and three months later, I was looking at the same three chapters and I thought ‘this isn’t going to work,'” she recalls.
“So, I started working on a romance novel. I’m probably the only woman who didn’t start reading romance novels until she was 65 years old. I was sitting in front of my computer one night and somebody sent me the link to a submission call from Ellora’s Cave,” she explains.
Long story short: She submitted a manuscript entitled Cupid’s Shaft to the erotic romance publisher in 2006 that ended up doing very well and launching a career that now includes 130 titles.
It turns out seniors like erotica, too.
“That is the truth!” says Holt. “I want women to know they can be empowered to read about sex, to write about it, to talk about it at any level. For so many years, everything was hidden under a plain brown wrapper — whether it was books, movies, activities, whatever — but there’s nothing wrong with good, healthy sex.”
“People need to understand that there’s nothing wrong with reading about it and talking about it,” she asserts.
Holt tells us she’s flattered her fans — both women and men — often write to her, saying she has helped them spice up their sex lives. But there are some who just don’t want to read her work, like her family.
“My kids are hysterical. Of course, they’re all adults now and I have a 20-year-old granddaughter, but they are hysterical,” she laughs.
“They just think it’s the best thing in the world and they all laugh about it, which shocked me. Of course, they don’t read anything I write; we have an agreement. They will promote me to everybody but they don’t have to read it.”
Apparently, people aren’t as enthusiastic about reading senior erotica when it’s their parents or grandparents.
