ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Jason DeSantis scored the game-winner 35 seconds into overtime as the San Antonio Rampage topped the Abbotsford Heat 3-2. Roman Horak and Max Reinhart scored for Abbotsford in the loss.
Jacob Markstrom was terrific in goal for San Antonio as he turned aside 32 of the 34 shots he faced to record the win. Abbotsford’s Barry Brust made just 14 saves on 17 shots.
It took just under three-and-a-half minutes for the visitors to get on the board as Casey Wellman beat Brust.
Abbotsford would pull even a little under three minutes later on a powerplay as Horak potted his 12th goal of the year.
San Antonio grabbed the lead back before the first intermission as Greg Rallo scored with 4:38 left in the opening period.
The home side pulled level again midway through the second period as Reinhart tallied just his first goal of the season.
Abbotsford pressed hard for the go-ahead-goal in the third period, outshooting San Antonio 14-3, but Markstrom stood tall to force overtime, which set up DeSantis’ winner.
The two teams will play a rematch in the valley on Wednesday.
