ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Yet another pooch had to be rescued by professionals.
Mary, a Rottweiler-German Shepherd cross, had been missing for 24 hours, when her owner finally spotted her on Sunday.
She had fallen down an embankment on Sumas Mountain and her owner had decided to try to retrieve her. That’s when the Abbotsford Fire Department was dispatched.
Assistant fire chief Dave Rivett says firefighters used a rope system to get both of them out.
“We didn’t want the owner to try making it up on his own. We actually used a haul system to raise the dog in a basket stretcher, and then we tied the owner and hauled him up as well,” he explains.
The endeavour wasn’t without its challenges.
“It was getting dark, the slope was very slippery, and the dog was a large-breed dog, about 130 pounds,” says Rivett.
Over the weekend, volunteers with North Shore Rescue finally retrieved Ohly, a Bernese Mountain dog, 12 days after he went missing on Mount Seymour.
