RCMP retrieve vehicle connected to a 2004 missing person investigation

Creston RCMP have retrieved a vehicle believed to belong to a person who went missing from the Creston area.

George Franklin Davis was reported missing in July 2004.

A volunteer search and recovery dive team had been helping Davis’s family search for him for over 20 years.

On Sept. 24, they were in the Kootenay River near a location known as the “Old Ferry Landing,” when they found a fully submerged vehicle.

The team found human remains inside the vehicle.

On Sept. 28, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team recovered the vehicle from the river.

Investigators say that both the vehicle’s description and license plate are consistent with Davis’s reported details.

While the remains have not been positively confirmed as being Davis, police believe that this is Davis based on the car and license plate information.

Forensic analysis and confirmation will come through an investigation by the BC Coroners Service.

Investigators say that no foul play is suspected in Davis’s death.

The case remains ongoing while forensic testing occurs.
