VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Do you suffer from anxiety? Some top psychiatrists fear more people will soon fall under that category, creating a big payday for drug companies.
It all comes out of proposed changes to the Diagnostic and Statistical Psychiatry Manual of Mental Disorders.
Postmedia is reporting the manual could move the goalpost when it comes to diagnosing generalized anxiety disorder.
Some psychiatrists are concerned the changes mean GAD could become more common than depression.
One doctor tells Postmedia he expects medication rates to skyrocket.
The new edition of the manual comes out in the spring.
