Freezing rain causes most trouble for drivers

Environment Canada is warning drivers that freezing rain can create the most trouble on our roadways this winter.
Water droplets freezing on the road, creating an ice rink for commuters who end up slipping and sliding through it says Meteorologist David Jones,
“I don’t think the hazard is well understood here because it is probably the most dangerous, not apparent driving condition that anyone here can experience.”
He says Environment Canada needs to do more in terms of education and do more to create awareness around this issue before the winter driving season starts.
“When you are driving it looks like regular rain but that rain is freezing into a sheet of ice on the road. Drizzle is even more tricky because it is hard to even see sometimes because the droplets are so tiny.”
He also says snow tires serve many purposes and help you to stop sooner in both pouring rain and freezing rain.
