Abandoned home in Surrey gutted by fire

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Fire investigators are trying to figure out how a fire at an abandoned home just off of Highway 10 in Surrey began overnight.

“It was completely boarded up and there was what looked to be very, very strong flame involvement in the house,” explains Assistant Fire Chief Joe DeLuca.

“They decided to do a ‘defensive attack,’ which is [hitting it] from the outside with lots and lots of water,” he adds.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

“There is an indication that possibly it could have been someone taking shelter in that home and might have built a small fire or… smoking,” says DeLuca.

The home has been completely gutted.
