Giants and Cougars set for weekend series rubber-match

PRINCE GEORGE (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Giants and Prince George Cougars have split their first two meetings of a three-game weekend series and they’ll play the rubber match this afternoon in Northern BC.

The Cougars earned a convincing 6-0 victory last night, after the Giants opened the weekend series with a 2-1 victory at home on Friday. Prince George ended a four-game losing streak with the win.

Vancouver has just one win in its past five games and two wins in its past 10 contests.

The Giants (9-24-0) are eight points back of Prince George (11-18-4) for fourth place in the five-team BC Division.

After an outpouring of goals last night, the Cougars and Giants are now tied with the second-least goals for in the WHL with 85. Only the Kootenay Ice (79) have scored less.

Vancouver has also struggled defensively, as its 132 goals against is tied for second-most with the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Brandon Wheat Kings have allowed 142 goals.

Both teams will be playing their final game before the Christmas break. The Giants will return to action against the Kelowna Rockets on Dec. 28.

Puck drop today is at 4 p.m.
