A sticky situation getting stuck on a mountain

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We’ve been seeing more and more of *this* lately, even though it’s avalanche season.

If you’re a skier or snowboarder, it’s best to familiarize yourself with what to do if you get stuck in the snow.

Tim Jones with North Shore Rescue says the best thing you can do is to stay where you are. “If you have a cellphone, make the call, because the higher you are the better chance you have of grabbing a signal, even abilities to text, so signals for a lot of phones now, we can pick up the GPS coordinates.”

“The more you drop down into the drainages, not only does it get more dangerous, because you run into waterfall canyons, but you lose your cell signal and we can’t get you,” he adds.

Jones says you should also avoid any ravines, and instead try to find a ridge.
