Crews still cleaning up mess from train derailment

WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – The Transportation Safety Board is investigating as crews continue to clear up the mess from yesterday’s train derailment north of Whistler.
“We’re still removing the cars. They’ve been chopped up into pieces and they’re craning them out,” describes Tara Lee with Power Flagging.
“The damage was assessed a lot worse than it was originally anticipated. We’ll probably be here until 10 o’clock tonight, at least,” she adds.
“Now they have to replace the rails on the trestles, the telephone pole… we’re not doing that until Monday. We’ll have it stabilized through the weekend and then we’ll start up again on Monday.”
The accident involved three rail cars going off the tracks; one toppled off an overpass onto Highway 99.
