Lego, Netgear, and LensPen showcase innovations at CES

LAS VEGAS (NEWS1130) – We’ve all been frustrated with smudges and fingerprints dotting phones and computer screens.

News1130 came across a Vancouver based company that doesn’t have an app for that, but they do have a solution! LensPen is entering the market with a cleaning system for fine optics.

Vice president of operations Peter Meurrens says the company sprouted from the photographic side, cleaning fingerprints off of camera lenses and filters. “We established the brand name LensPen, first started in 1995, and today, where now we are a world-wide for cleaning fine optics.”

Today, they announced they are branching out. “The technology of how we clean fingerprints off lenses is unique to our company. We use carbon in a special way, and we’re going to transfer that technology from how we clean camera lenses to the cleaning of fingerprints on tablets and smart phones.”

Lego

Lego Mindstorms is a product that’s been out for about 15 years; it allows children 10 years and older to enjoy building robots.

News1130 spoke with Brandee Johnson with Lego Education at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“We’re very excited to announce the new launch of Lego Mindstorm EV3. It’s our third generation of the Mindstorm platform,” explains Johnson. “We have both an education version as well as retail version.”

“The education version is customized to be utilized in classrooms with students and teachers. It has several different components. One is a building component, where students get to build with Lego Technic bricks to design a robot.”

Johnson says the next step is to program the robot, “utilizing software designed by National Instruments to make their robot move and perform a variety of different tasks and accomplish challenges.”

“Lastly, it has curriculum that goes along with it that allows students and teachers to learn core stem concepts within the classroom. We find that tool to be extremely motivating and engaging to students.”

Netgear

Netgear is a pioneer and a leader in WiFi, and News1130 spoke with David Henry with the tech company to talk about innovation and some new exciting things Netgear is working on.

“The biggest initiative for us right now is innovating on mobility. We’re all about the home network and connecting people and the most important device people want connected right now is their mobile phone and their tablet,” explains Henry.

“We’re revamping their products to make them more controllable, more accessible. and tightly integrated with your mobile phones so you can take advantage of more of those experiences.”

TV is one of the most exciting areas; we asked Henry what he sees in the future.

“TV is all about over the top content… meaning streaming from YouTube and Netflix and Amazon. It’s growing very quickly,” he tells us.

“At Netgear, we have two areas that we’re going after. First, we provide the connection. If you don’t have a good network connection, you can’t enjoy the stream. Secondly, we have products that take your existing television and make it smart. Our NeoTV line of products makes an old TV into a SmartTV, so you can stream all that content to whatever TV you already have in your house.”
