RCMP use chainsaw to rescue man with hoarding problem

By

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – An elderly man has been rescued from his Burnaby home in a bad case of hoarding.

The man’s relatives had grown concerned after failed attempts to contact him; so, the RCMP were called in. Corporal Dave Reid says they arrived to find the man trapped under piles of his own belongings.

“Forced entry was required. A chainsaw was necessary to get through some of the debris that surrounded him,” he tells us.

Reid says there was extensive hoarding in the house. “Every room… was piled almost up to the roof on both floors of the house.”

“The fact that it required a chainsaw to get through the items that were piled around him and over top of him could give you an approximate idea of what we’re dealing with here.”

The man was taken to hospital, suffering from injuries related to loss of circulation.
