Vancouver considering expanding food cart programs

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Amid concerns from some restaurants, Vancouver has agreed to keep an eye on its food cart program.
This comes as the city looks outside the downtown for future expansion.
Vancouver’s ruling Vision party is making it clear, it continues to support the food carts.
Councillor Heather Deal says a lot of work has gone into the program.
But in light of concerns, she says it’s worth ongoing monitoring. “What I am attempting to do here it take this into neutral ground and continue us on the path that we’ve been on, which is a slow and steady expansion of a very successful and popular program, while monitoring it at the same time.”
Meantime, Deputy City Manager Sadhu Johnston has indicated the city will look outside the downtown to grow the program.
“We have saturated the downtown BIA areas, and so future expansion for the remaining licenses that we can issue would be outside of the downtown BIA and the Robson BIA, Gastown.”
