VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It is being described as the largest fundraising campaign of its kind in Canadian history, and UBC has hit a major milestone related to it. The university has surpassed $1 billion and is now two-thirds of the way towards its next goal of hitting $1.5 billion by 2015.
The university launched the start an evolution campaign in September of 2011.
“I am deeply grateful to our alumni and donor community for their overwhelming support in this campaign,” says President Stephen Toope. “Their generosity and involvement is providing more student aid, improving learning environments, and extending the impact of research and community engagement. With their help, UBC can really be a catalyst for change and transformation.”
More than 138,000 gifts have been made so far.
The money raised will support everything from research to scholarships, programs and infrastructure. UBC is also looking to double the number of alumni who are actively involved.
