Another security concern over a government data bank

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Another day, another concern about how the government handles your personal information.
This time the focus is a system used by provincial social workers.
BC’s representative for children and youth has been warning about the Integrated Case Management System for a number of months, and a consultant’s report is adding to the worries.
Vincent Gogolek of the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association says the range of problems is staggering.
“We’ve been talking about this for years now, about how this is not a good idea and would not go well, because it’s so risky,” he explains.
Gogolek doesn’t like the amount of data the system is intended to carry. “When a data breach occurs, instead of being a bad problem, it’s catastrophic.”
Yesterday, the Auditor General warned of problems in another government system, that one used, in part, to share police reports to Crown counsel.
