Can new name for BC Liberals help leave behind old baggage?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The governing party of this province has re-branded itself (sort of); it comes after the BC Liberals said last year they wouldn’t opt for a new name. But will this “renewed” group will have an impact on voting day in May?
It’s no longer just the “BC Liberals.” “Today’s BC Liberals” is now seen all over the party’s website and news releases.
“It’s not uncommon for parties to do this before a campaign. ‘Today’s BC Liberals’ is the message we’re taking forward with our renewed team, new leader, and a look at the future,” says Langley MLA Mary Polak.
“I think we’re looking at the kind of new life that’s been brought to the party by new candidates. They see a positive future and a positive vision.”
But many party members running in the spring election are still from the Gordon Campbell Liberal days, something SFU marketing expert Lindsay Meredith says Premier Christy Clark needs to get away from.
“There’s a fair bit of animosity built up, whether it be HST or BC Rail issues, or political [figures] getting their legal fees covered,” explains Meredith.
“Timing is everything. There’s all kinds of old stuff there that Christy Clark has to, frankly, close the closet door, stuff those skeletons in there, and hope to God they never come out,” he adds.
