Most Canadians expect golden years to include work: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Four out of 10 Canadians see themselves owning a business in retirement, according to a new poll. That’s mostly because they want or need the extra money.
The survey found 39 per cent say they’d likely run a business after reaching 65 years of age. Of that group, three out of four cited the need for additional income.
But BMO commercial banking area manager JJ Kozak says there are other reasons. “Sixty-two per cent said they’d do it to stay sharp and mentally focused, while 53 per cent said it would be an enjoyable hobby.”
Kozak notes overall, four out of five respondents plan to do some sort of work in retirement. “About half of them plan to do so by starting their own business.”
“I think we’re about to see a whole new breed of entrepreneur coming into the business landscape,” he adds.
