RCMP launches new site on missing persons and cold cases

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The RCMP is harnessing the power of the World Wide Web to shine a light on hundreds of missing persons cases.

The country’s national police force is out with a new site, designed to generate new leads for investigators and new hope for families.

The Mounties admit the files that are posted on canadasmissing.ca only represent a sampling of all the cases on its books.

A number of BC files can be found there, including those on women who vanished along the infamous Highway of Tears in our province’s north.

In all, there is information on 427 missing adults, 113 missing children, and more than 150 unidentified remains.

The site is just part of a broader $10 million program announced by the federal government in 2010. On the whole, the page is getting praise, although one group would like more “specificity” to Aboriginals.
