Debate over community centre funding is heating up

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – She has apologized, but Adriane Carr is standing by her motion to look into how community centres are funded.

Adriane Carr has been trying to get a look at community centre finances, but says she has been shut down by both City Manager Penny Ballem and Mayor Gregor Robertson.

Councillor Geoff Meggs called Carr into question during yesterday’s council meeting, saying he wanted to launch an investigation over her comments surrounding an email exchange.

“I did apologize to the city manager for any statements I may have made that impuned her motive,” says Carr.

Carr isn’t backtracking on her request.

“So I’m firm in my resolve that my motion should have been on the table and it’s an absolute sad day for democracy,” she continues.

Ballem has said talking about the finances could jeopordize a potential future deal.
