News1130 to host BC leaders in Twitter chats

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s your province, your issues, and your vote.

Leading up to the May 14th election, we here at News1130 want to give you a chance to ask each of the BC party leaders about the things that matter to you.

Each leader has agreed to spend one hour in our newsroom, answering your questions on Twitter. The leaders will first join our anchors for a brief live chat; they will take to Twitter immediately after.

During each segment, you can tweet the leader directly with your questions, adding our official election hashtag #YourVote.

SFU Communications Professor Peter Chow-White says Christy Clark had done the best job so far in engaging voters online.

“You can see right away, they’re on Twitter and other social media platforms. Some of the other politicians, I had to look around even to find if they had a social media presence at all.”

Chow-White says all politicians would do well to engage voters online.

“It’s absolutely important for politicians to be involved in social media. So, is it more important than other [forms of communication]? Yes, because social media has become a much more important source of information gathering for people.”

You will be able to follow along with the live Twitter chats on News1130.com or on Twitter through #YourVote.

Schedule:

Christy Clark – Mon April 22nd 7-8 p.m. (@ChristyClarkBC)
Jane Sterk – Thurs April 25th 7-8 p.m. (@JaneSterk)
John Cummins – Thurs May 2nd 7-8 p.m. (@ElectJohn)
