VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Roberto Luongo could see a little more action than expected after the Canucks announced today that Cory Schneider is out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury and that Luongo will start Thursday’s home game against Anaheim.
“He’s got the body injury,” said Canucks coach Alain Vigneault, who says that Schneider’s injury happened in Monday’s win over Chicago, but Vigneault added that he is not willing to disclose the nature of the injury. Schneider has played 15 of the Canucks’ last 18 games.
American Hockey league goalie Joe Cannata has been recalled from the Chicago Wolves. Cannata, who like Schneider, is from Boston, tells News1130 Sports that he realizes that he was one injury or sickness from being called up, and says its “something you dream about, being a kid”.
The Wolves went with Matt Climie as their number one netminder this year when Eddie Lack was injured, but Climie is not Canucks property. Cannata, who played in 14 games this season was the only goalie in Chicago that was property of Vancouver.
Injured defencemen Kevin Bieksa (lower-body injury) and Keith Ballard (back) were both on the ice today, although Bieksa cut his session short. Vigneault calls the two “day to day” but was particularly impressed with Ballard’s progress.
The Canucks are expected to ice the same forward lines as Monday’s win over Chicago, defenseman Derek Joslin was paired up with Andrew Alberts at practise this morning and could make his Canucks debut against the Ducks.
