LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – A giant grow-op has been busted in Aldergrove in a very sophisticated underground bunker.
Sergeant Lindsey Houghton with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit tells us the operation consisted of five shipping containers.
“These shipping containers had doorways cut through them, to make continuous pathways that connected all of the containers, as well as raised walkways built in… so workers could easily walk through the bunker from container to container and the out the secret hatch entranceway.”
Dirt and grass covered this up for a couple of years; the property looked a lot like a hobby farm, complete with three sheep and one pig.
But below, “to fuel this underground generator, this speaks to the great lengths that they will go to… a natural gas pipeline was cut into and a gas bypass was installed to redirect the gas to the generator. Very, very dangerous.”
Cranes are now digging it out.
“You’re talking potentially millions of dollars over the life of a grow-op of this size that would make its way into the hands of organized crime,” says Houghton.
There was a similar bust in Mission last month.
