Original Black Sabbath releases first studio album in 35 years

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Headlining the list of new music releases tomorrow, is a new album by a group of guys who last recorded together in 1978.

13 is the latest effort from Black Sabbath.

This time, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler are back, with Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk sitting in for Bill Ward, who sat out over a contract dispute.

J.J. Caithcart, manager of Vancouver’s Scrape Records, says Wilk does a good job sticking to the script.

“It seems that he’s paying respect to Bill and it doesn’t seem that he’s doing anything adventurous, it’s just him and Geezer laying that classic Sabbath rhythm section. It’s staying true to the original sound and trying not to reinvent the wheel.”

Caithcart adds 13 allows a new generation to discover the Sabbath sound.

“For the dads and the uncles… being able to bring their nieces, nephews, sons and daughters to show and show them in person what they’ve been talking about, experiences they’ve had as kids… it’s just nice to be able to bridge those gaps.”

Sabbath has two Canadian dates this summer: August 14th in Toronto and August 22nd in Vancouver.

Caithcart feels it’s a reunion that had to happen, as Tony Iommi is fighting lymphoma, while Osbourne and Butler aren’t getting any younger either.

If you can’t wait to get your hands on the new Black Sabbath album, Scrape will be open at the stroke of midnight tonight for fans eager to get their copy.

They’re located at Broadway and Kingsway in Vancouver.
