Crews battling Lizzie Creek wildfire

PEMBERTON (NEWS1130) – Crews continue to tackle a wildfire southeast of Pemberton.

It’s at about 40 hectares in size.

The Coastal Fire Centre’s Donna McPherson says its location is making it hard to fight.

“It’s in a very, very steep slope, up the side of the hill. It’s posing some challenges to the fire crews that are there. The incident commander says they’re making very slow but steady progress on the fire, so they’re pleased with the progress that they’ve got,” she explains.

McPherson says the fire started very slowly this morning. “It was basically smokey ground. This afternoon, as it warmed up, it got an open flame on it.”

Thirteen recreational properties have been put on evacuation alert.

Six helicopters and almost 50 firefighters are working on the blaze.
