Canucks open road trip with win over Senators

OTTAWA, ON (NEWS1130) – The Canucks exploded for four goals in the opening nine and a half minutes of the second period to chase Craig Anderson from the Ottawa goal as Vancouver beat the Senators 5-2.
Vancouver won for just the second time in nine games as it kicked off a four-game road trip. The Canucks are coming off their longest homestand of the season, in which they put up a 1-2-3 record.
Clarke MacArthur opened the scoring for the Senators 8:50 into the first period with his seventh goal of the season. That was the only tally of the opening period.
The Canucks went to work quickly in the second. After Alex Burrows forced a turnover with a hit behind the Ottawa goal, Henrik Sedin centred for his brother Daniel, who beat Anderson far side to make it 1-1. The goal was the 300th of Daniel’s career.
Just 45 seconds later, David Booth bumped his slump as he turned off the right-hand boards and fired on net to beat Anderson with a shot that handcuffed the Sens’ goalie. It was Booth’s second goal of the season.
A little past the four minute mark, Vancouver opened up a two-goal lead, as Jason Garrison blasted home a point shot on the powerplay.
The Canucks scored their fourth goal of the period with a little over 10 minutes to go as Dale Weise poked home a loose puck.
Anderson gave up four goals on 15 shots and was replaced by Robin Lehner.
Ottawa cut the deficit to two goals with 62 seconds left until the intermission. Mika Zibanejad batted home a bouncing puck at the side of the goal to make it 4-2.
Mike Santorelli tallied the only goal in the third period to round out the scoring, while Roberto Luongo made 14 of his 37 saves to preserve the victory.
The Canucks continue their trip with a matinee game against the New York Rangers on Saturday.
