VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – What kinds of performances do you want to see on your way home on transit?
Jiana Ling with TransLink says a “busk-off” of sorts is about to begin in Metro Vancouver. “Tomorrow we are hosting busker auditions, and it is called “So you think you can busk?”
She says there are eight busking licenses to compete for. “We have a lot of people who are interested. Just to give you an example, we have 42 buskers on the system at any given time. So we need to go through an application process to make sure that they are playing appropriate music.”
Ling calls it a win-win for musicians and transit riders.
The public can vote online for their favourite busker between December 5th and 15th.
The winner will be announced on TransLink’s Buzzer blog on December 16, 2013.
Buskers perform year-round at six different SkyTrain stations in Vancouver: Waterfront, Burrard, Granville, Vancouver City Centre and Commercial-Broadway.
Transit busking licenses are valid for one year.
