Burnaby General ER closed

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – A bizarre police incident has closed the emergency room at Burnaby General.

It all seems to stem from a situation at the Lougheed Mall this morning.

A man has been arrested after stealing a Ryder transport truck and then purposely smashing the big truck into six parked police cruisers in the Lougheed Mall parking lot around 2 o’clock this morning.

Burnaby RCMP Constable Karen Whitby says the damage to their department is huge. “It was quite shocking to see. It’s quite a hit to the police department because, you know, those vehicles are out of service and it’ll be awhile before we can replace those.”

She estimates the damage will total more than half a million dollars.

It’s believed that same suspect then ripped out a sprinkler pipe at Burnaby General, causing the emergency room to flood and forcing it’s closure.

The suspect is known to police
