Doctors pushing to end the “weekend-effect”

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There is a push from two Canadian doctors who want end the so-called “weekend-effect” who say patients aren’t getting the best care on Saturdays and Sundays.
They have just published a call to action to help curb the problem of reduced staffing levels.
They want all hospitals to re-structure scheduling on Saturdays and Sundays so — the patient are not waiting longer to see a doctor, get testing done or most importantly — get treatment.
They say there have been studies done over the past two decades that show patients admitted on a weekend are more likely have a bad outcome or experience or to die.
The two doctors admit it is not an easy fix, but would like to see something done, sooner rather than later.
