Giants suffer rare regulation loss

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Giants lost in regulation for just the second time in their past 17 games as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Prince George Cougars at the Pacific Coliseum.
Tyler Benson, the first overall pick in the 2013 WHL bantam draft played his second career game for Vancouver. He was held off the scoresheet and had an even-rating.
The Giants opened the scoring with a little under three minutes left in the first period. Carter Popoff made a nice move to beat Ty Edmonds for his 10th goal of the season.
Edmonds was fantastic the rest of the night for the visitors as he made 41 saves to earn the victory.
A pair of quick goals in the second period put Prince George ahead for good. Jordan Tkatch tied the game 3:38 into the middle frame, and 25 seconds later Zach Pochiro tallied to make it 2-1 for the Cougars.
Klarc Wilson scored into an empty-net with one second remaining in the game to round out the scoring.
Vancouver’s last loss in regulation was a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Victoria Royals on Dec. 6.
The Giants still sit eight points ahead of the Cougars for third place in the BC Division, and trail the Royals by five points for second place.
Vancouver returns to action on Dec. 28 as they’ll host the Kelowna Rockets.
