Justin Trudeau concerned about Canada’s immigration system

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The backlog of people waiting to come into Canada needs to be reduced according to Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.

“Immigration has always been one of Canada’s strengths and needs to continue to be in a world where countries like the US, UK and Australia increasingly compete for immigrants that used to just come to Canada,” he says.

Trudeau adds Canada’s immigration system needs to be strengthened. “By processing more claims by bringing in parents and grandparents in a timely fashion.”

He calls the Conservative’s approach a narrow-minded view of immigration.

“Immigration is going to be an important source of economic benefit and economic growth for all Canadians. We need to make sure we’re investing in settlement and integration tools and language acquisition,” he explains.

Volunteering with the Guru Nanak Free Kitchen, Trudeau was handing out food to those living on the Downtown Eastside today.
