Giants fall to Rockets in first game back

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Kelowna Rockets scored three times on the powerplay to win their 14th straight game as they beat the Giants 4-2 at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver’s first game after the Christmas break.
The Giants lost for the second straight game after falling 3-1 to the Prince George Cougars on Dec. 15 in their final game before the break.
Anthony Ast scored his fourth goal of the season for Vancouver just 41 seconds into the second period to open the scoring.
Kelowna rallied to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes, with goals from Colton Heffley and Tyson Baillie, both on the powerplay.
The Rockets extended their lead early in the third period, as Cole Linaker beat Jared Rathjen shorthanded to make it 3-1.
After Jackson Houck cut into the deficit for Vancouver, Madison Bowey scored on a powerplay to round out the scoring.
Rathjen made a terrific glove save on Tyrell Goulbourne in the late stages of the second period, and even though it came in a loss, it will likely be viewed as one of the top plays in the WHL season.
The Giants will travel to Kamloops to face the Blazers on Sunday evening.
