VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The flu season is far from over, with some more strains expected in the new year. That’s why the province’s chief medical health officer is advising you again to get immunized.
“Particularly perhaps if you’re in the groups who are most at risk for complications and what we know with the H1N1 that is predominantly circulating at the moment, is that children under the age of five have the least resistance,” says Doctor Perry Kendall.
“We can expect to see Influenza A continuing and then later in the season we often see Influenza B.”
Kendall says anyone in contact with kids or seniors should also get the shot and it’s not too late; there are still several places around the province offering it.
He adds there are other things to keep in mind:
“Although vaccination is important, there are other illnesses out there that can cause a flu like illness and hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene and staying away from work when you’re ill coughing or sneezing is an important thing to do.”
