Pair reportedly takes off at border, arrested at gun point

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Two people are in custody after an arrest at gun point on the Oak St. Bridge.

The pair reportedly stopped briefly at the border and then took off.

RCMP traffic officers spotted the vehicle northbound on Highway 99 but it wasn’t until they were on the bridge that they were able to finally stop and surround it.

“Because of the running of the border, not knowing what we’re facing, it [the car] was taken down at gun point,” explains RCMP Cpl. Robert McDonald.

He’s not sure why the two ran but police are going through the vehicle to see if they were carrying anything illegal. “There were several bags found in the vehicle with a substance that has yet to be determined.”

McDonald says they’re waiting to find out what is in those bags before recommending any charges. “We don’t know. It might just be running from the border but it might be something else. So until we know exactly what we are dealing with, it’s hard to say what charges are going to be laid.”
