Giants thump last-place Lethbridge

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Dalton Sward scored a goal shorthanded and another on the powerplay as the Vancouver Giants ended a three-game losing skid by crushing the Lethbridge Hurricanes 10-0.

Payton Lee had a quiet night in the Giants’ crease as he made just 18 saves to record this second career shutout.

Vancouver got on the board midway through the first period on the powerplay. Tyler Morrison rang one off the crossbar and in for his fifth goal of the season.

Travis McEvoy added a goal before the first intermission as the Giants held a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes.

Sward got Vancouver going again early in the second period as he beat Jonny Hogue on a rebound after Cain Franson was turned aside on a shorthanded breakaway. It was Sward’s fourth shorthanded goal of the season.

Luca Leone and Thomas Foster added goals to put the Giants up 5-0 after two periods.

Sward scored on the powerplay early in the third and a little over 30 seconds later Jackson Houck also scored with the man advantage to make it 7-0.

After Ty Ronning and Arvin Atwal scored at even strength, Houck tallied again on the powerplay to round out the scoring.

The Giants are back in action on Saturday as they host the Victoria Royals.
