Giants come up short against Royals

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Dalton Sward scored his fifth shorthanded goal of the season, but that was all the offense Vancouver produced as the Giants fell 3-1 to the Victoria Royals at the Pacific Coliseum.

Sward scored shorthanded for the second consecutive night. His five shorthanded goals this season are tied for second most in franchise history, one back of the record.

The Royals took a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Brandon Magee and Jordan Fransoo just 2:28 apart less than 10 minutes into the game.

Logan Nelson put Victoria up 3-0 with a goal midway through the second. Sward got Vancouver on the board with just over four minutes left in the period.

Neither team scored in the third as Victoria held on for the win. Patrik Polivka made 32 saves for the Royals to record the win.

It was Vancouver’s fourth loss in the past five games. It was the sixth of 10 meetings between the BC Division rivals this season. Each team has won three times so far.

The Giants are back in action on Wednesday when they host the Kamloops Blazers.
