VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A small business group says the province is doing a good job at saving some businesses time and money by cutting red tape. But there are still a lot of hoops some companies have to jump through when dealing with other government agencies.
The BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association, for example, says the biggest complaints from its members stem from paperwork required by different municipalities. It is calling for a way to streamline all of that red tape.
But the Canadian Federation of Independent Business says the provincial government is getting an A for the third year in a row for not making things overly complex in BC.
Small Business Minister Naomi Yamamoto says there is still work to be done; she tells us five projects have been identified to further simplify things. “The first one is we are announcing a simplified two-page form for small businesses to bid on government contracts.”
She says they are also hoping to simplify the start-up and operations of a restaurant in BC.
Over the past 13 years, the BC government claims to have cut more than 154,000 regulatory requirements for small businesses.
