Highway 99 shut down after tractor-trailer strikes overpass; police seek video footage

Highway 99 has been shut down after a vehicle struck the Ladner Truck Road overpass in Delta Wednesday morning.

BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says a southbound white Kenworth tractor-trailer unit hit the overpass around 10:39 a.m.

Police had to shut down both southbound lanes on Highway 99, as well as the Ladner Trunk Road overpass, to assess the damage.

“We’re working with the BC Ministry of Transportation to ensure that the overpass is safe, and we’re asking drivers to avoid the area because delays will be significant,” said Sgt. Michael McLaughlin with BCHP.

The driver of the tractor-trailer stopped and stayed at the scene. The Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) is investigating the cause of the collision.

“If you are a witness, and particularly if you have dash-camera video of the events leading up to the collision, please call police,” said McLaughlin.

BCHP asks that you contact them at the Burnaby office at 604-526-9744 and quote file (1004) 2026-1918.

Police also advise the public to check DriveBC to see when the roads in the area reopen.
